Listen to your messages using your phone or your email client

Voicemail Password

Your voicemail password expires yearly. If you forget your voicemail password, call the Network Operations Center at 540-231-6780.

Checking Voicemail

If you have a voicemail, then on your deskphone the following indicators/buttons will glow red: the top-right indicator, the Message button, and the History button.

  • To access your voicemail from your Avaya deskphone:
    1. Press the Message button.
    2. Dial your password followed by the # button.
  • To access your voicemail from a different Avaya deskphone on campus:
    1. Dial 1-1000.
    2. Press the * button.
    3. Press the * button again.
    4. When the prompt begins, press the # button.
    5. You'll get a "Please enter your mailbox number." prompt. Dial your 5-digit phone extension followed by the # button.
    6. Dial your password followed by the # button.

  • To access your voicemail from off-campus:
    1. Dial the appropriate number:
      • Blacksburg: 540-231-1000
      • National Capital Region (VTRCA, NVC, LCI, EMC): 703-538-3740 or 571-858-3040
      • Richmond: 804-643-1326
    2. When the prompt begins, press the # button.
    3. You'll get a "Please enter your mailbox number" prompt. Dial your 5-digit phone extension followed by the # button.
    4. Dial your password followed by the # button.
